What We Invoke: Lauren Januhowski exhibition in Madrid at Marquesa Gallery
On April 10, Marquesa Gallery inaugurated What We Invoke / Lo que invocamos, the first solo exhibition in Spain of Lauren Januhowski, curated by Victoria Rivers. The exhibition, located in the district of Carabanchel (Madrid), can be visited until May 30.
The opening brought together collectors, industry professionals and the public interested in contemporary art in Madrid, consolidating the exhibition as one of the most unique proposals of the season.

A language built from the textile
The work of Lauren Januhowski is articulated from thread, embroidery and monotype on fabric. In their practice, these elements function as tools of invocation, building a language of their own where memory, feminine heritage and ancestral tradition are intertwined.
Through her works, the artist proposes an experience that goes beyond the visual, connecting the material with the intangible. As stated in the curatorial text of Victoria Rivers, each piece acts as a receptacle and portal, collecting what has been transmitted in silence from generation to generation.

Knitting as a way to create
One of the most relevant aspects of What We Invoke is the way in which the weaving and sewing gesture rises beyond the material.
In this exhibition, the fabric is proposed as a form of creation, linked to traditions in which thread and embroidery have been tools to build meaning, memory and identity. Januhowski’s work connects with this genealogy, translating it into the present from a contemporary perspective.
A space where time is diluted
Another of the key elements of the exhibition is the relationship with time.
The works generate a space where linear temporality disappears, allowing past and present to coexist. This sensation creates an immersive experience in which the viewer is placed in a state of leisurely observation, moving away from the usual rhythm.
This approach makes the exhibition one of the most interesting proposals within the panorama of contemporary art exhibitions in Madrid.
The female figure as the axis
Within this universe, the female figure takes on a central role.
It is not a static representation, but a presence in constant transformation, linked to processes of creation, transmission and change. Through it, the work of Lauren Januhowski connects with archetypes and stories that have crossed different cultures.
This dimension reinforces the conceptual character of the exhibition and its ability to generate a deeper reading.

The Lauren Januhowski exhibition at Marquesa Gallery Madrid stands out for its conceptual solidity and aesthetic strength.
The works invite a close look, where texture, layers and details take center stage. The experience of touring the exhibition is intimate and leisurely, allowing you to discover nuances that are not perceived at first sight.
