Lauren Januhowski (Houston, 1992) works with textiles as a storytelling space. Her pieces combine printed fabrics in monotype, sewing, embroidery, transparencies and beads to gather autobiographical experiences and stories of the women of her environment.
The time of manual labor is part of the meaning of the work. Stitches, layers and assemblages make visible a process related to the sewing tradition of her family and the transmission of experiences between women. Color articulates emotions and transparent fabrics create physical depth and narrative.
He trained at The Cooper Union, New York, and at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. In Marquesa presents What We Invoke, an approach to memory, intimacy and the shared construction of identity.
