The Garden of Insurrection – Marcela Cantuária
The renowned Brazilian artist presents an exercise of symbolic invocation and reparation at the Casa del Consejo de Arévalo, a former seat of power and municipal control. The exhibition reactivates silenced stories, creating a space for confrontation between political violence and the affirmation of dissenting voices.
The exhibition pays homage to the Thirteen Roses, young militants executed in 1939. Against the systematic erasure of his memory, Cantuária has created fourteen unpublished works: thirteen individual portraits and a central piece, The Garden of the Insurrection. In this work, the young women sprout like flowers from a tree in constant transformation, symbolizing a vital force that bursts where it wanted to impose oblivion.
Nature and history intertwine to assert that every living memory is itself an act of insurrection.
