Domesticate or Die, the new exhibition of Rubén Martín de Lucas in Marquesa Gallery, starts from an idea as simple as it is disturbing: in the 21st century there are only two paths, adapt or disappear. Through a series of works full of irony, wild humor and an aesthetic of great visual strength, the artist addresses domestication as a process that affects both nature and the human being.
The exhibition, linked to his project Transgenic Days, explores how we have been losing our abilities to live wildly while “progress” homogenizes landscapes, cultures and ways of life. In his paintings and texts, Martín de Lucas contrasts docility, overcontrol, and dependence on the system with the radical beauty of the untamed.
