José Luis Ceña: El eco del otro.
On June 5th we opened in Marquesa Gallery the new solo exhibition of the painter José Luis Ceña: El eco del otro, curated by Adonay Bermúdez. This proposal is focused on the construction of identity through the symbol of the mask that, in the words of the commissioner, far from being an element of concealment, works as a threshold between who we are and what we can become.
The protagonists of these works are children, who cover their faces with animal masks, metaphors of transformation, play and identity exploration that characterizes the first years of life. Ceña invites us through the mask and childhood to also consider the masks of adult life, those that do not correspond to the playful but to conventions, expectations or social impositions. The exhibition is, after all, a sensitive look at the construction processes that affect each individual. Each canvas invites the viewer to wonder who they are and who they might become.
With this exhibition we reaffirm our commitment to proposals that address essential issues of our lives from contemporary visual languages. It is not only an aesthetic journey of great pictorial quality, but it is an experience of reflection on the construction of the self, otherness and the transforming capacity of the imagination.
The opening brought together collectors, professionals in the sector, lovers of contemporary art and friends who had the opportunity to meet the artist and make contact with his work. The exhibition can be visited at Marquesa Gallery until 31 July from Wednesday to Friday from 11:00h to 19:00h and Saturdays from 11:00h to 14:30h.
