Víctor López-Rúa is an artist trained in Spain and Italy, and is, in the words of the former director of the Reina Sofía National Museum, Juan Manuel Bonet, one of the important voices within the field of Spanish figurative art that, in addition, is committed to the thematic and compositional renewal of the eternal and incombustible language of painting, always from a perspective of research, search and deepening in the various realities.

Víctor López-Rúa, is characterized by the professor of Aesthetics and critic of the ABC, Francisco Carpio, as a painter-painter, that is, a painter with a trade, a trade of lights, and with the benefit of colors, space, sensitivity and matter. His painting participates in certain strategies linked to the New German Objectivity and to cinema, which leads us to highlight his constant recurrence to the narrative, the presence that literature has in his plastic work, but also his high dreamlike and surreal temperature; and about this Luis Alberto de Cuenca writes: “Few plastic artists exist in Spain today capable of creating pictorial spaces so loaded with disturbing strangeness as theirs”.

Backlight

On January 10, Marquesa Gallery opens its doors to "Contraluz", a captivating exhibition by the artist Víctor López-Rúa, under the curatorship of Francisco Carpio. This exhibition explores the boundaries between light and shadow, using the technique of stereoscopy to create a deeply immersive and conceptual artistic experience.

López-Rúa’s work is defined by his fascination with light as the origin of the visible and shadow as a metaphor for the occult. In Counterlight, these elements not only coexist, but actively dialogue to reveal stories that transcend the surface. Each piece invites the viewer to participate in a game of perception and understanding: what seems hidden in the shadows comes to life through interpretation, completing the final meaning of the work.

Stereoscopy, a technique that López-Rúa mastered masterfully, adds a unique dimension to his work. The images are not only contemplated; they are experienced in depth, creating a visual and emotional impact that defies the traditional limits of painting.

Under the curatorial vision of Francisco Carpio, "Contraluz" is presented as a poetic reflection on the duality of the visible and the intangible, the present and the absent. An unmissable opportunity to enter an innovative and nuanced artistic universe.

We look forward to discovering this unique exhibition that redefines our way of observing and understanding art. We are waiting for you at Marquesa Gallery, from January 10th.
