Marquesa Gallery
Carabanchel hosts a new space that opens with the exhibition of a reference of Spanish art in the 70s, curated by Mariano Navarro.
Geometrías del Silencio
Geometrías del Silencio by artist Santiago Serrano will be the proposal in charge of opening the doors of Marquesa Gallery, the new gallery dedicated to contemporary art that will be installed in the Madrid neighborhood of Carabanchel.
Founded by a long-standing team, led by Mariana Rey, Raúl Alonso and Rocío Martínez, Marquesa Gallery brings together the experience and passion of its founders who define their project as a commitment “to the art that inspires and transforms” and with the desire to “raise stimulating perspectives visually and intellectually”.
For its premiere, which will take place on October 18, Marquesa Gallery has the work of one of the references of Spanish conceptual art of the 70s, Santiago Serrano, curated by another renowned critic and curator such as Mariano Navarro.
Own Universe
The exhibition includes the new work of the artist whose work is part of large collections and institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona, the Marugame Hirai Museum in Kagawa in Japan, the Pilar Citoler Collection, the Helga de Alvear Collection or the Marcelino Botín Collection, among others.
In the words of Mariano Navarro, Serrano’s work “has investigated both the constituent elements of his discipline and has constituted a universe of references, mythologies and poetic resources, in addition to creating an impressive range of textures and shapes.” The curator of the exhibition adds that Serrano’s practice “has been linked to an abstract and conceptual aspect, following a line similar to that of artists such as Marc Rothko, Piet Mondrian, Kazimir Malevich or Barnett Newman”.
With more than 70 international exhibitions behind it, Santiago Serrano “keeps intact those ethical and aesthetic principles that marked a before and after in the future of Spanish art, from expressive singularity, nonconformity and experimental commitment”, explain the founders of Marquesa Gallery.
Marquesa de Argüeso
This new gallery dedicated to art will be located in the street Marquesa de Argüeso 38 and adds to the artistic effervescence that the Madrid neighborhood of Carabanchel lives.
Marquesa Gallery will have more than 200 m2 mostly dedicated to the program of temporary exhibitions, and an independent space dedicated to the showroom, where some of the artists represented by the gallery are shown.
After the opening, the gallery can be visited from Wednesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays until 2.30 p.m. Outside the usual hours, its founders tell us that you can always visit by appointment.
