Nixolline is the artistic name of Nikola Halabuková (Liberec, Czech Republic, 1994), a self-taught painter. Her practice belongs to the field of abstraction and expressive gesture, with a sustained focus on emotional experience. Painting allows her to give presence to sensations that do not always find verbal expression: moods, tensions and shifts in her perception of the world around her.
Each work begins with an intuitive response to the act of painting. Spontaneous impulses coexist with decisions that guide the composition. She explores relationships between force and fragility, disorder and balance, and the possibility that a mark might suggest something without describing it fully. Her signs and visual metaphors keep interpretation open, allowing viewers to discover their own associations.
Mixed media expand the possibilities of gesture. Her practice uses acrylic, pastel and drawing materials, and includes experiments with tools other than brushes. Scale also contributes to this freedom of action: in the interview published by Hiarts in February 2025, she described her affinity for large canvases and the space they provide for translating emotion into movement and color.
Nature, processes of transformation and the energy of movement inform her imagery. These interests connect with everyday life and human relationships, so that abstraction remains linked to concrete experiences. Her paintings invite readings that may move between the memory of a place, a bodily sensation and an imagined image, without fixing a single narrative.
The selection of her work at Marquesa Gallery offers an introduction to this material and emotional exploration. In works such as Euphoria and Searching for what life is, she uses acrylic, pastel and oil stick on raw linen. The diptych If you managed this life, then this will be beautiful introduces a two-part composition into this vocabulary. Titles offer a point of entry, moving between immediate emotion and more open questions about the experience of living.
