Marcos Temoche (Caracas, 1982) is a Venezuelan-Peruvian visual artist based in Madrid. His practice encompasses painting, installation, video, urban interventions and digital projects. He studied Fine Arts at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón and obtained his degree from Venezuela’s Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes. The experience of displacement informs his investigation of belonging, memory and the construction of identity.
His relationship with the street is central to his career. In Jalando Candela, presented in Caracas in 2013 and curated by Lorena González, he combined painting, drawing, graffiti, video and installation to bring the codes and tensions of the urban environment into the exhibition space. In his later painting project Territorios Extendidos, maps and geographical boundaries become a way of imagining territories transformed by migration, questioning the apparent stability of borders.
Video allows him to connect objects, actions and places that hold experiences of vulnerability. Morriña (2019) brings together a wooden fishing boat and a moving image of the Caribbean Sea: the boat remains still while the water continues to move. Presented at MaMaMa Espacio as part of MAC Lima’s public program for Crónicas Migrantes, the installation connects memories of the Pacific and the Caribbean, turning uprootedness into a spatial experience that viewers can navigate.
In Any Where (2019), created for SACO8 in Antofagasta, he arranged camping tents and human figures on the historic Melbourne Clark Pier. The tents’ colors evoked different flags, making connections between national identity, shelter and movement visible. The project emerged from his own experience of migration and also moved into the urban environment, approaching destination as an uncertain condition and belonging as an ongoing negotiation.
His career includes a residency at Leitrim Sculpture Center, Ireland, in 2020, and finalist selection for Pasaporte para un artista in Lima in 2018. In 2024, the video A este santo nombre (2015) entered the Museo Reina Sofía on deposit, as part of Archivo Fotografía Urbana’s donation to the museum’s Foundation. That year his work also featured in the presentation of the donated selection at Sala Mendoza in Caracas, curated by Ariel Jiménez.
In 2026 he presented Amanecer and Amuletos monumentales at Marquesa Gallery as part of LuzMadrid. The first installation connects luggage, light and exodus; the second brings beliefs and cultural memories into urban space through digital sculptures in augmented reality. His participation with Marquesa at the MARTE fair in Castellón also extended the presentation of his recent paintings, where the human figure and color explore encounters between cultural inheritance and new surroundings.
