Laura Segura Gómez (Pedrera, Seville, 1985) lives and works in Granada. Her practice spans sculpture, installation, ceramics and textile processes. She investigates the idea of origin through contact with materials: how a smell, a texture or a repeated gesture can activate memories and reconnect us with the natural environment. Her works propose a bodily experience that extends beyond sight.
She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Granada in 2011 and completed a Master’s in Art Production and Research in 2014. Attention to rural landscapes and manual knowledge runs through her work. Beeswax, thread, wool, sisal, wood and porcelain form a language in which the transformation of materials retains the memory of the time devoted to each piece.
In Desenvuelto de la envoltura, presented at the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia in 2021–2022, threads treated with wax and pigment interact with wooden structures. The making process becomes as present as the finished work. In De un mundo raro (2021), textile and porcelain meet: embroideries become ceramic forms, while a large red tapestry evokes a symbolic construction of the world.
Una trenza de hierba sagrada (2022) expands the everyday gesture of braiding to an architectural scale. Made from natural sisal, it connects ideas of union, protection and the transmission of knowledge. The work belongs to the IVAM collection and was shown in A media lumbre (2026), curated by Blanca de la Torre. Segura’s work also featured in Hebras y urdimbres in Granada (2024) and at the University of Málaga (2025).
Residencies have opened new paths of inquiry. At Fundación Silos in 2023, she developed Ora et Labora and Capiteles entre-lazados through work with wool felt and its relationship to architectural space. In 2025, at Baladre, Lo Pati’s residency in the Ebro Delta, she explored natural fibers and the rice plant, attending to local materials and cycles.
Her career includes the University of Granada’s Alonso Cano Sculpture Awards in 2014 and 2017, and a 2020 Artistic Creation Award from the Diputación de Granada. Alongside IVAM, her work is documented in the University of Granada’s holdings and the provincial council’s Granada de Fondo collection. In 2026 she took part in Tejiendo historias at MUCAC Málaga, curated by Alicia Ventura, exploring the genealogies and possibilities of contemporary textile art.
In Musitar (2026), her first solo exhibition at Marquesa Gallery, Sema D’Acosta brought together works connecting body, shelter and landscape. Los mil pétalos, Oro-Péndola and Kundal evoke protective coverings, nests and organic forms, while Ommmmm brings soap and wood into a reflection on ritual. The exhibition offers a journey through a practice in which patient work and physical proximity to the pieces are essential to their meaning.
